HOSANNA FARM AND FARMSTAY NSW [REVIEW]
Hosanna farmstay in the Tweed Valley town of Stokers Siding is a fantastic spot for a multi generational getaway or to holiday with friends. If you are craving a dose of nature, you will love the very special experience that the team at Hosanna has created.
Today we share our recent stay at Hosanna. We have included lots of photos, so you can get a good feel for what is on offer here.
An easy escape from the Gold Coast, Brisbane or Byron Bay, a visit to Hosanna Farm to either join in the day program or for a farmstay will provide a good dose of old-fashioned fun.
I recently spend some time exploring the Tweed with Tweed Tourism Company. Lucky for me, my visit included an overnight stay at Hosanna Farm. On hearing that I was heading to a farm, this city girl immediately imagined mud, bbq snags and not a lot to keep me busy. Boy, was I in for a surprise, the idyllic location and amazing food I experienced has me trying to figure out how soon I can get myself back there!
Kirsty and Regan Perry, owners and managers at Hosanna, have created a welcoming environment where you and your family can connect with nature, enjoy time with the animals and, if you are keen, learn about their regenerative farming practices.
So what’s it like to enjoy a “Free range farmstay experience” on this 100 acre property just 25 minutes from the Tweed Coast? Well TLDR, it’s brilliant. Here’s what I discovered on my brief stay.
Visiting Hosanna
Hosanna Farmstay is not just for families, there is something for everyone to love about this place.
- It can be restful – spend a few days soaking up the picturesque surroundings, reading, or reconnecting off-grid with family and friends.
- It can be entertaining – Enjoy live music on weekends, book the private chef to cook you a spectacular meal or sit and sing around the campfire.
- It can be educational – learn about the animals and how to take care of them, discover where your food comes from, watch restorative farming in action.
- It can be an active family getaway – get the kids outdoors playing in mud, swimming in the dam and completing their “passport”
While staying on site for a few days is ideal, the farm also offers day visits. At only $7 per person*, you can enjoy access to most of the activities on offer between 9am-5pm. This rules out milking and collecting eggs but there is still plenty to see and do. What you miss out on is the lovely calm that comes over the farm when the visitors have left and the overnight guests can continue to enjoy the facilities.
*There are additional charges for a tractor tour or bee keeping experience.
Accommodation options at Hosanna Farm
When you stay overnight at the farm, you open up a whole new set of fun activities you can get involved in before the farm opens to the public for the day.
Overnight guests can milk the cow, collect eggs, and spend some time with the chickens or ducks before the day visitors arrive.
There are plenty of accommodation options from the lovely old homestead on the hill which was our base to the cabins that surround the dam. There are also powered and unpowered sites and basic “glamping huts”
The Homestead
The homestead sits in a prime position on the hill overlooking the property. The extensive building has two king and one queen bedroom, each with a set of bunk beds. There is also a bunk room for eight. With capacity to sleep up to twenty guests all up, this is the perfect choice for a holiday with your extended family or a bunch of good friends.
The view from our outdoor area was spectacular and sunset drinks on the hill watching the light soften over the property very memorable.
There is ample living space to complement the bedrooms with indoor and outdoor dining tables, a fireplace and comfortable sofa that begs you to take a break. Two bathrooms help get everyone out of the house on time.
A well-equipped kitchen will inspire you to cook (or perhaps book the farms private chef, which is highly recommended!).
I shared the homestead with a couple of friends and had an amazing night’s sleep in my very comfortable room with two way bathroom that made it an ensuite.
The Self Contained Cabins
Not far from the homestead are six cabins. These sit overlooking the water and each has a slightly different view, so no one is looking directly onto another.
The cabins sleep 4 (one double and a set of bucks) and are self contained. While they are not air-conditioned, they do have ceiling fans and plenty of ventilation. They also have a small fridge for keeping basics cold. A larger fridge is available next to the camp kitchen. There is a small balcony and a communal space nearby to relax with friends.
The Glamping huts
If you are just beginning to introduce your family to camping, these A-frame huts are a great place to start. They are not of the glamorous type but they do offer 4 comfortable single mattresses and a roof over your head to keep the weather out.
You are just a quick walk to the bathrooms and the rest of the farms facilities.
Campsites at Hosanna farmstay
Campers are not left out with fantastic firepits set up across the campgrounds. These are perfect for cooking dinner or roasting some marshmallows. Just set up your tent or caravan and settle in to enjoy the peace.
The campsites lay just across the creek from the main farmyard area, but only a short walk away. If you are after some privacy, there are also sites up high on the ridge that offer more privacy.
Campers have access to a well-stocked camp kitchen and a cool room. Alternatively, cook up something on fire pits. Firewood is for sale on site.
The food at Hosanna Farmstay
II would have to admit I had no idea what to expect from the food at Hosanna, but I was blown away. The first surprise was that you could get barista coffee from 7am weekends and a little later on weekdays.
Chef Alex creates some delicious lunch time eats, the quality and variety of the food on offer is impressive. Here are two of the dishes he created for our private dinner experience. Guests who book the homestead can also arrange a private dinner.
If you prefer to self cater there is a small shop on site that stocks a great selection of quality local food and drinks at reasonable prices. You really don’t need to shop before you arrive.
You could easily pull together a delicious dinner from what’s on sale here.
Things to do at Hosanna Farm
The team at Hosanna has created plenty of fun experiences to help you entertain the kids. There are scheduled offerings and plenty of things to do in between times.
Hosanna farmstay will be one stop on the Rail Trail which is due to open in early 2023
Taking a farm tour, joining in the animal feeding and learning all about life on the farm is just the start when you visit Hosanna Farm.
Complete the Adventure Passport
Remove the “I’m bored” phrase from your holiday but getting stuck into the list of activities for kids all pulled together in an Adventure Passport. As the kids work their way through the list of fun challenges, they can collect a stamp at the stamp station by reception.
Activities range from things like discovering the names of the farms animals to hunting for the golden pig or making the perfect mud pie. Parents can join in and there is more than enough here to keep kids busy for days.
Hosanna farmstay is dog friendly. Provided your dog is people friendly and you are happy to follow the dog-rules, you can bring your four-legged family members along too.
Join in the animal feeding
Whether you pop in for a day visit with the kids or decide to book a farmstay experience, you have the opportunity to get up close to goats, pigs, cows and other animals including llamas! There are feeding sessions scheduled twice a day.
Milk a cow
Start the day helping to collect the milk needed for all those flat whites!
Watch the baby chicks
Learn about the lifecycle of chickens and watch the tiny chick at play, if you are lucky you may even see one hatching!
If you are planning a school holiday visit you need to book early!
Take a farm tour
I highly recommended everyone take a farm tour, even adults will enjoy jumping on the tractor and learning more about life on the farm. They offer tours three times a day on weekends and once a day Wednesday-Friday.
Hand feeding the seemingly ever hungry cows was a scream.
Enjoy some water fun!
In warm weather, there is even more fun to be had. There is a large dam that is one of the focal points of the property, particularly in summer.
The dam offers free kayaks, a mountain-side water slide, and a diving board for perfecting your belly flops! While it was not quite warm enough to get me in the water the morning view is lovely.
You can see the full range of activities on their website
Summing up, If you are looking for somewhere to disconnect from technology and reconnect with your family or with nature it’s hard to beat the environment at Hosanna
